Welcome to the Amateur Motorsport Photography Awards™ 2025
Above: The Amateur Motorsport Photography Awards™ 2024 Winning Image by Les Gawin
"I had to pinch myself when it was announced that I had been chosen as the Amateur Motorsport Photographer of the Year, 2024; my submissions were very much based on images that I personally enjoy capturing, so to learn that the judging panel liked them too really means a lot to me.
It is fantastic to see an initiative that promotes what I feel had in past years been a largely unrecognised genre of photography, and champions the growing community of amateurs that enjoy motorsport photography. It’s great to see the awards back this year - they are a wonderful vehicle (sorry!) for demonstrating that motorsport photography can be beautiful!
I hope the competition gets the support that it deserves and I encourage anyone who enjoys motorsport photography to submit their work.”
— Les Gawin, Overall Winner & Amateur Motorsport Photographer of the Year 2024
After storming onto the scene in 2024 with jaw-dropping shots and a bit of national press fanfare (we know, we know… modesty is overrated), the Amateur Motorsport Photography Awards™ are back for 2025! We're here to celebrate the raw, unfiltered talent of UK-based amateur motorsport photographers. If you’re a pro, this isn’t your scene - unless you’re cool with the ‘amateur’ badge?
Whether you live at the race track or just sneak in on the occasional weekend with your camera, this is your golden ticket to show off the heart-pounding, hair-raising, "did-that-just-happen?" moments that make British motorsport unforgettable. We want photos that scream stories - on-track chaos, pit lane pandemonium, secret paddock shenanigans, or the relentless devotion of the teams. Basically, if it’s epic, emotional, tells a story or makes us go “wow,” we want it.
Our panel of photography pros and motorsport insiders will be judging entries on creativity, composition, technical skill, story telling and most importantly, your uncanny ability to capture the very soul of motor racing.
So, come and join us in putting the spotlight on the brilliant, passionate, slightly obsessive world of UK amateur motorsport photography. Your moment to shine (literally and figuratively) is here.
Make sure you sign up to our mailing list to be the first to hear of news and updates and to receive an exclusive mailing list only offer!
"It was such a huge surprise to come overall runner-up last year, especially after seeing all the other shortlisted photos and the fact they were all absolutely incredible.
Thank you so much to Trackside Focus® for running this competition and to the judges for voting for my photo. It has really helped boost my confidence in my photography skills."
— Nicola Sim, Runner-Up 2024

About the Amateur Motorsport Photography Awards™
The Amateur Motorsport Photography Awards™ (AMPA) was born in 2024 and is now entering it’s second year after a very successful first year.
Greg, founder and CEO of Trackside Focus® had a moment of realisation when he discovered something was seriously missing from the motorsport world: proper appreciation for the countless amateur motorsport photographers who spend their weekends trackside, capturing roaring engines, flying gravel, and pure adrenaline of motorsport.
Let’s be honest - amateur motorsport photographers rarely get the spotlight they deserve. AMPA is here to fix that. We’re celebrating the unsung heroes with cameras - the people who brave unpredictable weather, long queues, and questionable burgers to bring us the magic of motorsport from a fan’s-eye view.
AMPA is all about putting those epic, heartfelt, “I can’t believe I caught that shot” moments front and centre. It’s a competition created purely for amateur photographers - because your passion and creativity deserve more than just a few likes on social media.
And with the help of our awesome, industry-leading sponsors, we’ve built something genuinely exciting - a competition that’s as thrilling as the races themselves.

Why Is There An Entry Fee?
As a small (really a micro) business, Trackside Focus® runs on passion, caffeine, and a whole lot of hard work. The income from entry fees is absolutely vital as it helps us cover the nuts and bolts of running the competition, including project management, admin and on-going running costs.
We’ve got big ambitions for the Amateur Motorsport Photography Awards™ - to grow it across the UK and, one day, take it global. Every penny from entry fees is reinvested straight back into the business to help it grow, improve, and reach new audiences. We’ve worked incredibly hard to keep the entry fee as low as possible, because we know every bit counts (especially for fellow enthusiasts with expensive camera buying habits). The entry fee is also in line with other competitions of a similar nature.
Without the support from entry fees and the incredibly generous backing of our sponsors and partners - this competition simply wouldn’t exist.
At Trackside Focus®, we’re deeply passionate about giving amateur and aspiring motorsport photographers the platform they deserve. Your entry fee isn’t just a payment - it’s what keeps this whole thing possible, helping us continue to build, evolve, and celebrate the amazing talent of amateur motorsport photographers in the UK.
The Judging Process and Judges
Our judging panel is carefully selected and comprises both photographers and industry professionals from across the worlds of both motorsport and photography. Our judges are all handpicked for their love of motorsport and photography but also their passion for encouraging and supporting amateur and budding motorsport photographers.
